Photos, Video Show Frantic Crowds At Budapest Train Station

Chaos unfolded on Thursday in Budapest's Keleti station as crowds of migrants who had been camped outside were finally allowed in. 

Police had closed the train station on Tuesday to block migrants from leaving. At least 3,000 migrants were left stranded outside the train station with little food or water. The station was reopened Thursday, though trains headed west, where many of the migrants were hoping to travel, are still banned.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Hungary has been trying to slow the flow of migrants to Germany, which has been taking in the lion's share of Europe's migrants and refugees. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged other European countries to accept more migrants.

Many of the refugees are coming from Syria, where, according to UN estimates, over 200,000 people have been killed in a civil war.
